Within 12 months, the Japanese giant Toyota is expected to unveil a solid-stage lithium-ion battery electric car prototype: it will be a real technological revolution.
A revolution is coming in the automotive sector. Keiji Kaita – executive of the automotive giant Toyota – has announced that within 12 months the Japanese company should unveil the prototype of a truly unique electric car. The novelty is that the vehicle should be equipped with a solid-stage lithium battery. This is a real technological revolution that could exponentially multiply the diffusion and usability of electric-powered vehicles. So far, electric car batteries use liquid electrolytes which – especially in the long term – are not very stable. Using solid state lithium, on the other hand, it is possible to achieve greater stability and a higher storage capacity. This makes the battery much safer, more reliable and more efficient in terms of both performance and charging.

In 2021 the first solid lithium car battery
Solid-state lithium batteries have even 8/10 more storage capacity than batteries currently in use and recharge in much less time. According to rumors leaked by Toyota, the new generation of batteries should be able to recharge in just 15 minutes. The reduction in charging time would also significantly extend the “average life” of the batteries. According to Kaita, the new batteries could have a 30-year warranty. The revolution announced by Toyota is the result of a joint venture between the Japanese car manufacturer and the giant Panasonic, which has been producing nickel-hydride metal batteries for 25 years. The first solid-state lithium-ion battery electric car should arrive on the market by 2025 but already in 2021 Toyota will unveil to the world the first prototype at the Tokyo Olympics (scheduled this year but postponed due to the Coronavirus emergency).
