180 horsepower by 180 kilos: Aston Martin unveils “his” first bike

The first bike produced by Aston Martin will be called AMB 001: carbon fibre frame and 180 hp V-Twin Turbo twin-cylinder engine.

The beginning of a new era for lovers of two wheels. A few days ago, Aston Martin – a historic British car manufacturer specialising in the production of luxury vehicles – announced its entry into the motorcycle market. The vehicle will be called AMB 001 and will be the first motorcycle designed by Aston Martin. “This is what we believe should be a cutting-edge bike – announced Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Creative Director of Aston Martin – and we are very proud to see the wings of Aston Martin on a motorcycle for the first time. In addition to applying the skills we developed for cars like the revolutionary Valkyrie, we were also able to bring our special expertise in traditional craftsmanship techniques into this project, designed by the same pencils that make Aston Martin cars. AMB was presented at EICMA 2019, the International Bicycle and Motorcycle Exhibition held at the Fiera di Milano from 7 to 10 November. In addition to the first Aston Martin bike, WoW, the first Italian startup specialized in the creation of electric scooters, was also presented at Eicma.

The characteristics of the first Aston Martin bike

The AMB – acronym for Aston Martin Bike – will be an authentic concentration of technology and power. The bike’s frame, designed in collaboration with Nottingham’s Brough Superior team, is made entirely of carbon fibre, aluminium and titanium. The use of these ultra-light materials makes it possible to significantly reduce the weight of the vehicle: the bike will weigh “just” 180 kilograms. The low weight will make the bike extremely agile and responsive. The AMB 001 will be equipped with a twin-cylinder V-Twin Turbo engine capable of delivering 180 horsepower. All this power and technology unfortunately comes at a very high price.  And the AMB 001 will not be within everyone’s reach. Aston Martin has in fact announced that, for the time being, only 100 units will be produced and will be sold at the end of 2020 at a price of around 120 thousand dollars.
