The innovative startup IWT has designed artificial fiberglass islets for the sea or lake: they are equipped with small positioning motors and can be customized with many options

How do you keep your distance at the sea or lake? This is the question that many holidaymakers are asking themselves during the torrid summer weekends. Some bathing establishments have “increased” the distance between umbrellas and parasols, others are adopting more innovative solutions. One of these is certainly Blunique, an artificial island that can be used for sunbathing in total safety. The project was developed by the innovative startup IWT (Iavarone Wood Technology) and is a mix of design and eco-sustainable technology. Blunique artificial islets are perfect for bathing establishments, campsites and hotels that want to offer their customers a reserved space, away from the chaos and other people. Even restaurants and bars by the sea or lake can use Blunique for aperitifs or dinners on the water’s edge.

Artificial islets to maintain distances to the sea or lake

Blunique islets are floating fibreglass platforms. They are equipped with electric positioning motors that allow small movements and light anchors to “stop” the structure at the desired point.  The islets are available in two sizes (3×3 metres for 4 people and 6×3 metres for 6 people) and in three versions. The “Ligth” one is very simple and has a relatively low basic cost (about 10 thousand euros). The other two versions “Sun” and “Dinner” start from 35 thousand euros and can be customized with a wide choice of optionals. IWT designed Blunique in 2018 and in 2019 began marketing. “We had numerous requests – says Luigi Iavarone – from Italy, but also from the Maldives, Seychelles and Croatia. Then Covid-19 stopped everything. Only now we are leaving again and we are optimistic”. The project was awarded among the top ten Italian innovative ideas at the Sun Expo in Rimini, Italy’s leading outdoor furniture fair.
