A British company has developed Bump, a high-tech necklace that lights up when the wearer gets too close to other people and does not respect social distancing
A necklace can also be useful against Coronavirus. As long as it is high-tech, of course. The British company Tharsus – specialized in strategic machines and industrial automation – has developed a special anti-Covid necklace. It is called Bump and is able to light up when the wearer wears it purple, miscalculates or “forgets” the rules imposed by social distancing. The necklace (similar to a stethoscope) is equipped with sensors able to detect the presence of other devices. These detectors dialogue with a software that generates a light and acoustic signal. Bump lights up blue when the wearer is two meters away from another device. If the distance is only one meter, the necklace lights up red and emits a loud beep. The sound does not stop until the wearer of the necklace moves away and re-establishes the right interpersonal distance (2 meters). Bump is designed specifically for workers in companies, offices and factories where smartworking is not possible.

Bump: the anti-Covid necklace
Bump made his “debut” during the London Marathon in October. The necklace was worn by 100 athletes and all the race staff. By warning the wearer in case of “excessive proximity”, the device helped to ensure the smooth running of the event. But that’s not all. Bump also allowed the Marathon organizers to record the names of the athletes who were “in direct contact” to more easily track any cases of contagion. In addition to the series, Tharsus has also developed a tracking system that allows you to record and monitor contacts. “There is nothing like it on the market,” said Andrew Nicholson, Tharsus marketing director. “Bump is an original concept: it’s both an immediate signal to the wearer if they get too close, and a management information generator to improve security and business performance. Mobile apps work only retrospectively, tracking post-event contacts. Bump tracks interactions, not people.
