Memo Food Clip is a hi-tech clip that sends notifications to your smartphone when foods in the refrigerator are close to expiration.
Food waste is a problem that affects all the handouts and refrigerators in our country. Anyone who has bought large quantities of food (perhaps on offer), take them home, store them carefully and then end up forgetting about them until the expiration date. The result? Food to throw away and money wasted. A very serious problem: according to the FAO, in 2018, in Italy 15 billion euros were thrown away in food, 247 euros for every citizen. In addition to weighing on family and national budgets, food waste also affects the environment and feeds the (vicious) cycle of pollution by plastics and microplastics. To stem the problem and offer hi-tech help to the most distracted consumers, the invention factory H24Invent has created Memo Food Clip, an innovative clip for smart foods that “signals” the expiration of foods. The Memo Food Clip is applied to the packaging like a normal clip to close the food packaging. Once connected to a smartphone app, however, the clip shows its hi-tech side: the device recognizes the expiration date of the food and sends alerts on the smartphone when a food stored in the refrigerator or pantry is about to expire.
The smart clip for expiring foods
Using the Memo Food Clip is quick and easy. First, download the app connected to your device and enable NFC reading from your smartphone’s settings menu. Second: bring the clip closer to your smartphone’s NFC reading area and enter the expiration date of the foods you want to monitor. At this point, the device is ready to use and will automatically send reminders to the consumer. The first notification will arrive 3 days before the expiration of the product and the second warning 24 hours from the fateful “departure date”. In addition to being smart, Memo Food Clip is also green. The clip was created by reusing part of the wood felled by the storm Vaia that towards the end of 2018 destroyed 8.6 million cubic meters of wood in the northeast of our country. In addition, for each package sold, 2 euros will be donated to the affected municipalities.
