Did you have too much drinks and want to sober up quickly? Try ClearMate

ClearMate device

Researchers at the University Health Network of Toronto have patented ClearMate, a device that helps you get sober quickly through hyperventilation.

Everyone will have happened to wake up on a Sunday morning in a hangover. Migraine, drowsiness, slurred mouth and hypersensitivity to light are the classic symptoms of hangover. When they occur (especially if they appear all at once) one can only hope that they will pass soon. There are many remedies to get rid of the hangover faster. Some are great old classics – drink lots of water, have a big breakfast – others are definitely more “innovative”. Among the latter, ClearMate, a “device” developed by researchers at the University Health Network of Toronto, definitely stands out. It is a device that (according to its creators) would help to eliminate alcohol from the body quickly. In what way? Through hyperventilation, which is a frequent series of respiratory acts that lead to a significant reduction of carbon dioxide in the blood. Alcohol is disposed of by the liver, but the creators of ClearMate have speculated that the lungs may “contribute” to accelerating this physiological process.

All the user has to do is breathe into the machine. ClearMate introduces oxygen and carbon dioxide into the respiratory system and in this way accelerates the disposal of alcohol. “With each breath, the device is designed to allow the normal amount of carbon dioxide to escape and any excess is returned with the next breath,” explained creator Joseph Fisher. “The phenomenon of alcohol elimination through our lungs has been known for a long time: it’s almost inexplicable why no one tried it decades ago. ClearMate is an immediate and effective treatment for Carbon Monoxide. The device is CE marked and is also approved for sale in Canada and many countries around the world,” said the researcher from the University Health Network in Toronto.
