earHD, a new way of listening in high definition

Flare Audio is introducing a passive listening device that increases detail and reduces noise and distractions in confused environments

Imagine you want to go to a concert without hearing your neighbor singing out of tune with a loud voice. Or to be at a conference or lecture and be able to focus only on the speaker’s voice. Or better yet, if you’re a musician and you want to isolate yourself from the noisy environment while playing. Today, this is possible thanks to earHD.

The problem generated by an environment with a lot of confusion actually lies in the great potential of our ear. The pavilion allows you to receive the frontal sounds together with the others produced by side sources. All this combined with distorted sounds and reflections from the surrounding environment. The idea behind earHD’s functioning is to accurately select the acoustic waves direction. All other sources are reflected from the surface of the device.

How it works

earHD, thanks to its particular shape, isolates sound waves from a cone of 60 degrees from left to right. Front-facing, the devices isolates the sound from what we watch, mechanically reflecting everything else. The final product is the result of more than 50 prototypes of different shapes and more and more accurate details. The Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton has carried out independent studies on earHD. The results were confirmed and exceeded the manufacturer’s best expectations.

Where can we find them?

Listen to the sounds of nature on an excursion without the noises of civilization in the distance, well, we still have to wait a while. For the moment, earHD is a project being funded on kickstarter, you can find all the information on facebook, instagram and twitter.
