INNOVATE PEDAGOGICAL STUDENTS’ PROFESSIONAL SKILLS IN UNIVERSITY

To meet the demands of the education reform, improving the professional skills of pedagogical students is the highest priorities for teacher training institutes. This work made several recommendations, including setting up a combined teaching model at the University of Education (UEd), Vietnam National University (VNU), combining training and professional development for students through the professional ethics in education module, enhancing the use of technology throughout the process, organizing, training pedagogical skills for students, and effectively coordinating with member schools. i. Organizing a model of combined teaching Blended learning (BL) is a blended learning model where classroom learning and online learning are conducted in combination and complement each other. This 2 is a model that has been studied around the world for nearly 20 years.

Most studies have shown the benefits of the BL model such as: improving teachers’ teaching skills, shortening the gap between teachers and students, and improving teaching quality. The application of the combined teaching model to design training programs, courses, and the use of teaching methods is also of interest to many scientists in the world and in Vietnam. Scientists focused on the course objectives when designing training programs, in particular, in the context of the global spread of the amid Covid-19 epidemic and its profound effects in all areas of society.

Many studies have focused on the transition from a direct teaching model to an end-to-end teaching model. In the current situation, the shift from the traditional BL model (combining face-to-face teaching and LMS system) to the new BL teaching form (combining the LMS system and video conferencing platforms).

ii. Combining training and improving skills and professionalism for students through the module on professional ethics One of the new features of the training program for pedagogical disciplines of UEd is the addition of the module on professional ethics. With the goal for students to understand and be equipped with knowledge about the legal system, value systems, culture, and professional ethics in the field of education; practice and handle hypothetical and practical situations in professional activities; be responsible 3 for the profession, the module on professional ethics in the field of education consists of four credits. It is developed quite specifically when it is spread over all 8 semesters of pedagogical students.

The output standards of the course are designed according to KPIs focusing on knowledge, skills and attitudes. Students will perform these KPIs according to the respective output standards allocation table of each semester. During the learning process, students will be guided, supported and evaluated by the lecturers in charge of the course, who are the academic advisors and the Department of Student Affairs of the school. It can be said that the combination of this module in the training program has made students have good awareness and skills in the process of improving and practicing their skills as well as being constantly cultivated in terms of quality and ethics, towards the goal of training comprehensive pedagogical students of the school.
