Internet of things at the service of logistics

The Hong Kong Polytechnic has filed patent application No. 18111830.1 to implement an Iot warehouse management system. The objective is to make the use of human resources more efficient, optimising the constant analysis of data for the optimal execution of orders and stock in the warehouse.

The growing heterogeneity of consumer tastes gives rise to continuous choices in the logistics sector. In particular, for commercial realities, the management of the warehouse is of strategic importance. Therefore, the Hong Kong Polytechnic has developed an Iot management system for warehouse management operations that reduces warehouse management costs and times, actively supporting human resources.

An Industrial IoT-based Smart Robotic Logistics Management System

Currently, most volumes consist of a large number of small but very varied orders. For this reason, production, the order processing phase and the synchronisation of data become fundamental for the correct management of the warehouse.

Internet of things at the service of logistics

In this regard, a team of researchers from Hong Kong has developed a Smart System with the help of the Iot to demonstrate, through research, the validity of this method. In fact, they have redefined the operations of picking in the warehouse and replenishing the stock through autonomous robots. It has been demonstrated that it is possible to move from a high intensity system of human capital to an extremely automated system.

With the introduction of Artificial Intelligence, even historically conservative processes such as logistics have benefited from positive influences. Through a case study, it has been demonstrated how productivity, accuracy and package picking operations can improve efficiency and effectiveness. The most important features of this methodology are:
