Smartphone in a thousand pieces? A startup will save him!

It’s called ADcase and could eliminate or at least reduce weeping and swearing for a moment of distraction or clumsiness.

Exaggerated? Well, then think about the moment when your smartphone falls to the ground, maybe chipping one side or even, in the worst case, scratching the screen. There is no film that can withstand a strong impact. A German student, Philip Frenzel, from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Aalen, Germany, tries to remedy this. His idea is to protect your expensive mobile phone with a system very close to the idea of an airbag.

AD stands for active damping, which is the basic principle of the ingenious mechanism. In essence, a device is attached to the mobile phone that, equipped with special sensors, releases small rubber legs from the corners just before hitting the ground. The result is the classic corner rescue. The smartphone bounces or even lies on its legs with the agility of a cat, practically without suffering damage.

An intuition, derived exactly from a ruinous fall of an iPhone on the ground, cost the young student several hundred euros of damage. Hence the desire to find an economic and resolutive solution.
At the moment there is still talk of a prototype but there is no lack of recognition from institutions and events in the sector such as the one received from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Mechatronik, the German Society for Mechatronics.

The objective is the marketing phase. To do this, like all startups born from scratch, ADcase is looking for funders to enter the next step. At the moment, Frenzel and ADcase’s co-founder, Peter Mayer, are securing the crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The start is scheduled for July while the first models for the iPhone have already been announced, starting from the 6th until the last born Apple, the iPhone X, last year.
