Ten years of innovation in the South: tenth edition of Innovation Village at Villa Doria d’Angri

On May 29 and 30, 283 speakers, 119 companies and the first prototypes made from a new bio-based fabric are expected. Also scheduled is the first Hackathon for Biodiversity.

One of the most eagerly awaited events in the Central-South Italy innovation scene returns to Naples. On May 29 and 30, the historic setting of Villa Doria d’Angri, home of the University of Naples Parthenope, will host the tenth edition of Innovation Village, a platform that for ten years has been networking companies, startups, research organizations and institutions to discuss technology, sustainability and development.

The 2025 edition promises to be particularly rich: 119 companies involved, 33 exhibitors, 26 institutional bodies and as many as 283 speakers will enliven the two days of conferences, working tables and thematic meetings. The event, promoted by Knowledge for Business, is now a national benchmark for dialogue between the manufacturing world and the research system.

Artificial intelligence, bioeconomy, bio-based materials, space economy, quantum innovation, advanced manufacturing, strategies for startups and technology transfer are some of the strands at the center of the 2025 edition.

The highlight of the event will be, once again this year, the Innovation Village Award, an award organized with ASviS and ENEA and sponsored by Optima Italia, dedicated to projects capable of generating positive environmental, social or productive impacts. Seventeen awards are up for grabs, including cash prizes and services provided by companies, organizations and associations.

Space is also given to previews: precisely at Innovation Village the first prototypes made with ScobySkin, an innovative material obtained by fermenting tea, sugars (also from fruit waste) and “good” bacteria, the same ones used to produce vinegar, will be presented. The result is a tough cellulose that can be processed like leather but is completely biodegradable and free of harmful chemicals. An innovation that combines bioeconomics, design and sustainability.

Great attention is also paid to the role of new generations. In fact, the first edition of the Hackathon for Biodiversity, sponsored by the National Biodiversity Future Center and implemented by Knowledge for Business and the Future Food Institute, is kicking off. The initiative will involve 100 students from agricultural and hospitality institutions in Campania in a creative marathon to rethink food models and enhance biodiversity, transforming the hackathon into an educational, interdisciplinary and participatory experience.

Amid growing numbers, new technological frontiers and youth protagonism, Innovation Village celebrates its first decade with an edition that looks to the future, focusing on innovation as an engine of change for the territory and the country.
