It’s called Camello and it’s an eco-friendly robot that delivers groceries to 700 households in Singapore in a fully automated way
Bringing groceries home can be very tiring. Crates of water, heavy bags (which always break halfway through) and large boxes are the nightmare of all supermarket shoppers. The problem becomes even more serious when the elderly, frail and mobility-impaired are shopping. It is often impossible for them to carry everything they need to buy in the shop home. To solve the problem and offer a service to the community, a Singaporean company has developed a special automatic robot that delivers groceries to their homes. The vehicle is compact in size, has four driving wheels, an electric motor and three-dimensional ultrasonic sensors. The latter allow it to detect obstacles and modify its trajectory to avoid accidents. The entire operation is controlled by artificial intelligence: the system uses images captured by a video camera to analyse the surrounding environment in real time and plan the optimum route. Camello: the robot that delivers groceries to your doorstep
The robot that delivers groceries in Singapore is called Camello and is manufactured by Otsaw Digital, a company specialising in artificial intelligence and self-driving robots. The vehicle can carry a maximum load of 20 kilos and make several deliveries on the same day. Groceries are booked via a smartphone app. Consumers choose the products to buy, enter their details and select a delivery time. Camello (after filling up at the supermarket) reaches the address indicated by the customer and sends a message to warn of its arrival. It is possible to receive the shopping in front of the door of the house, in the office, at the park or wherever you wish. After each delivery, the internal compartments and handles of the robot are automatically sanitised with an ultraviolet light. Camello currently delivers groceries to around 700 households in Singapore and operates from Monday to Saturday with five deliveries a day.
