During CES 2O21, Lg unveiled the first roll-up smartphone: the Rollable display can be folded on its long side like a sheet of paper

LG is the first “bomb” of CES 2021 in Las Vegas. During the second day of the world exhibition dedicated to new technologies, Jin-hong Kim (Head of Global Marketing and Communication LG) presented Lg Rollable, the first “roll-up” smartphone. That’s right: it is the first device with a flexible structure that can be rolled up on the short side, like a papyrus. In a few seconds, the device can switch from smartphone (the rolled up display measures 6.5 inches) to tablet (7.4 inches, when fully rolled up). To roll or unroll your smartphone, simply press your fingertip lightly on the edges of the display, and an internal mechanism will slide the flexible frame and change the configuration and extension of the device. At the moment, there is no precise information available on the Lg Rollable data sheet. The device should mount an OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution but so far no details have been revealed. Just as the price and launch date of Lg Rollable’s first Rollable smartphone have not been revealed: just wait!

Lg Rollable: the first roll-up smartphone

Lg’s roll-up smartphone was presented in a video at the beginning of the Korean company’s keynote. The Rollable is the natural evolution of a model launched on the market by Lg in summer 2020, the “Wing” (we reviewed it here). The latter is a smartphone equipped with two displays that can rotate 90 degrees and overlap. The overlap can take place in two configurations: the T-shaped one (main display on top of secondary display) or the lying T-shaped one (main display on the side of secondary display). The idea is to take advantage of the “extension” of the screen to allow the user to do multiple things at once.

For more than 50 years, CES has been the global stage for innovation. CTA’s goal for CES 2021 is to provide an engaging platform for companies large and small to launch products, build brands and form partnerships, while prioritizing health and safety. Members of the technology community thrive on meeting, sharing ideas and introducing products that will shape our future.
