The new partner is the perfect match for companies who want to expand, improve, or build from scratch a collection of industrial properties content for a wide range of applications

Unumbio is now a new partner of The Patent, Invention Magazine. The industry-leading data provider since 2009 creates and delivers industrial property (IP) data and related content on a global basis, at a competitive cost and to exacting quality standards. The companies can find a wide range of applications, including but not limited to IP online services; IP clearance, registration and renewal; IP screening, searching and watching; IP intelligence; IP protection and prosecution, IP management, and patent-related investigation and research. Unumbio can either create new content on-demand, provide existing datasets through multiple distribution options, and process customers’ current content using their cutting-edge technology.

All of their databases are ready to be licensed and integrated into a wide range of applications, bolstered by extensive updates and top-notch support. IP and IP-related companies can stop using unreliable data from disparate providers, generic non-standardized data from common data sources, or costly datasets built in-house. Whatever the jurisdiction (country, territory, authority, data source) or the subject matter—barring exceptional cases, Unumbio can offer the best dataset to fill the customers’ needs, such as:

• Case law.
• Commercial & company names.
• Copyrights.
• Domain names.
• Geographical indications.
• Industrial designs & models.
• Patents, SPCs & utility models.
• Pharma & life sciences.
• Plant varieties.
• Trademarks & labels.
• … and many more.

Unumbio’s research team, comprised of IP lawyers with vast experience in international practice, performs a comprehensive analysis of the legal frame, procedures, and integrity of the available data sources (bulletins, websites, etc.) through a series of standardized, copyright-protected reports. Their data team has participated in the development of some of the most comprehensive IP products in the industry, including LexisNexis® IPinstaLaw®, LexisNexis® Global IP Law Service®, LexisNexis GIPLS IP Charts, Matthew Bender®/ Oxford University Press® World Manual on IP, and Equerion IPQuester.

PREMIUM DATABASES

Building the perfect IP database does not have to be a chore. When a company licenses a PREMIUM DATABASE from Unumbio, they get fast access to the perfect data, checked and verified by top-flight experts and ready to be put to use in the service of their clients on day one. PREMIUM DATABASES are a “done-for-you” IP solution for almost any matter and jurisdiction. From researching a new dataset, to building the dataset, to maintaining it afterward, they meticulously analyze all available data sources. These include: public and private; freely available and paid; paper, digital and online; national, regional and international. All available official information is gathered, classified, and organized, regardless of whether or not that data will ultimately be used in the final database.

After selecting the data sources to be used, the team dive into the dataset-building process. The information from the data sources is processed and parameterized in a standard digital format. Unumbio performs thousands of operations geared toward data formatting, enhancement, and validation. Some of these operations apply to all the datasets, others to specific matters (e.g., patents) or jurisdictions. This lets the team reuse the improvements made on one database and apply them to all datasets with similar characteristics. In this way, they are constantly improving the datasets based on their own findings, official changes, or feedback from the customers.

Functions, tokenizers, dictionaries, mappings, and intelligent modules can be customized for each customer based on their needs. All Unumbio datasets are delivered in their format, the customer’s proprietary format, or an industry-standard format—for example, WIPO ST—upon request.

The PREMIUM DATABASE service package consists of updates on a weekly, monthly, lower-frequency (yearly, bi-yearly, or quarterly), and extraordinary basis. Beyond updates published by authorities, Unumbio’s platform employs an advanced system to follow up and track documents suitable to be updated. In this way, the customers receive all published changes, but also many unpublished changes, including unpublished applications. In addition to periodic updates, certain events trigger extraordinary updates—for example, the addition and merging of new data sources; updates collected directly from the authority and not available through official publications; regular scanning of now-complete (but previously incomplete) documents, and more.

Unumbio deliver data in a proprietary XML format common to all datasets, or custom formats upon request, delivered directly to the customer’s FTP, cloud-based storage drive, or server. Through a simple data integration kit and with Unumbio’s assistance, the customer will rapidly receive and integrate the data. From a database containing new patent filings in Brazil, to complete backfiles of trademark data from Asia, to custom datasets of pharma-related files, Unumbio can build a PREMIUM DATABASE for any of them. VAPOR CaaS

If a company already has IP datasets in its database, there is no need to start from scratch. Even if the data is out of date, full of holes, impossible to search, or impossible to integrate, it is not a lost cause thanks to VAPOR CaaS by Unumbio. With VAPOR CaaS, they can bring existing datasets back to life with the same expertise they apply to the PREMIUM DATABASES, completing and enriching the data to the highest quality standards for a far lower price tag.

Many companies already have vast libraries of IP-related data but many of those databases are on life support. IP records are subject to change, meaning an IP dataset that misses an update is dangerously out of date. IP data coming in from multiple sources may have incompatible fields and labeling conventions, making them impossible to search in a thorough or meaningful way. Certain sources may only supply IP data in a specific format, which may or may not be compatible or suited to the user’s purposes.

VAPOR CaaS (Content as a Service) is the solution. Whereas Software as a Service (‘SaaS’) is a service model that offers cloud-based software on demand, CaaS offers content on-demand to holders of a license or subscription. The content is the service, not the software. For a fraction of the cost of a PREMIUM DATABASE, VAPOR CaaS subscribers can submit their current datasets to be enriched and completed by Unumbio’s team of experts, including:

• Inaccuracies corrected.
• Missing fields filled in.
• Field-entry conventions unified for easy search-engine use and many more.

With VAPOR CaaS, the customers can: improve, classify, link, format, and complete any field from almost any IP-related document in any jurisdiction; get complete formatted files, or get raw data to feed into their systems; get their documents currently awaiting processing to interact with their data crawlers; fill the gaps in their data collection and much more.
