Wheeled transport is undergoing a period of great development, from electric motors to various improvements aimed at safer and more comfortable driving. Among the many examples there is also a proposal to eliminate blind spots. The last century, however, has seen practically unchanged the design of sun visors, which are indispensable elements during sunny days.
The reflected sun gaves great annoyance to drivers and causes twice as many car accidents as any other weather condition. The vehicle sun visor is an accessory that, unlike the others, has never been upgraded to improve safety or comfort. At best, it blocks part of the sun from the eyes but, at the same time, also reduces the driver’s field of vision. Bosch offers a solution with the revolutionary Virtual Visor, one of the products presented at CES 2020 in Las Vegas.
The Virtual Visor consists of a transparent LCD screen and an intuitive camera, which completely replaces the vehicle’s traditional sun visor. The 95-year-old novelty uses intelligent algorithms to intuitively block the sun’s glare and not the view of the road ahead. The software determines the reference points on your face by means of a camera and dims only small parts of the liquid crystal screen. The Virtual Visor only darkens the section through which light hits the eyes and leaves the rest of the display transparent, without reducing the driver’s field of vision.
The Virtual Visor was awarded of the Best of Innovational at the CES 2020 Innovation Awards in the In-Vehicle Entertainment & Safety category, receiving wide approval from the jury of designers, engineers and members of the technology media.
