Doctors at Cotugno Hospital in Naples have observed that HIV patients are not infected with the new coronavirus, suggesting the effectiveness of antiretroviral drugs
The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic is not stopping and doctors are working relentlessly to find drugs that can improve the health of the most serious patients. From the Cotugno hospital in Naples, specializing in infectious diseases, a new insight that could solve the problem just comes. The team of doctors, the same that discovered the effectiveness of the drug Tocilizumab, noted that the coronavirus did not infect any of the more than 200 patients being treated for HIV.
The observation leads experts to think that antiretroviral drugs, such as Lopinavir, Ritonavir or Galidesivir, could also counter the proliferation of SARS-CoV-2. Doctors tend to point out that for the moment it is only a hunch but it could be a great help in the search for a pharmaceutical treatment aimed at treating the most serious cases of Covid-19.
